Can’t Make it to Your Scheduled Vaccine Appointment? Please Call to Reschedule.

We know things come up, however, for scheduling purposes it is absolutely crucial to let the Health Department know if you cannot make it to your scheduled vaccine appointment. Here’s why:

  • The Moderna vaccine comes with 10 doses in a vial. When the vial is punctured, all 10 doses must be used in 6 hours.
  • The Johnson and Johnson vaccine comes with 5 doses in a vial. It also must be used within 6 hours after the vial is punctured.

Those scheduled to receive a first dose – If you cannot make it to your appointment, please call 785-229-3530 as soon as you know you will be unable to make it. The Health Department will re-schedule your vaccine. Each day of vaccine clinics, the Health Department has a “waiting list” to ensure no doses of the vaccine are wasted.

Those scheduled to receive a second dose – if you cannot make it to your appointment, there is a chance you will not receive your second dose. Once the vial is punctured those doses must be thrown out within 6 hours. Your name will be put on a wait list and you will receive a call if someone else does not show up for their second dose.

Persons who are scheduled to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and simply do not show up, make the Health Departments job of scheduling and organizing vaccine clinics even more complicated. Please call 785-229-3530 if you are unable to make your scheduled appointment time.
