Responsibilities

The Public Works Department is responsible for:

  • Maintenance of all gravel and paved roads
  • Application of gravel
  • Ditch maintenance (including mowing)
  • Brush removal
  • Sign maintenance
  • Installation of entrance pipes (Application must be submitted. The applications are available at the Public Works Department Office or you can download the pdf format by clicking here).
  • Culverts
  • Bridges
  • Highway Permits by application (The applications are available at the Public Works Department Office or you can download the application in pdf format by clicking here).
  • Dust Control by application (The applications are available at the Public Works Department Office or you can download the application in pdf format by clicking here).

WORK REQUEST

The Franklin County Public Works Department maintains the infrastructure in the unincorporated (rural) area of Franklin County. If you have a work request for the infrastructure inside any city limits, please contact the appropriate City's public works department.

If there is work that you would like to request to be done on a County Road, culvert, bridge, trees or brush or sign, you may submit a work request on-line or you may call the Public Works Department at (785) 229-3550. The Work Request Form can be filled out and submitted by clicking HERE.
