Job Opening Announcement: Service Mechanic

Position Title:     Service Mechanic

Department:        Public Works

Position Summary:
Under general direction of Shop Foreman, performs a wide variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair work on automotive and a wide variety of light, medium and heavy equipment, including gas and diesel powered equipment.

Franklin County participates in the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS & KP&F).

Base Rate:  $12.38 per hour on qualifications

Hours:  Generally, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
              Some overtime may be required.

Additional Information:
          High School Diploma or GED required.  6-12 months related experience required.  A valid Commercial driver’s license is required.
          Knowledge and experience in the use of the materials and tools used in equipment maintenance and repair required.  Ability to receive, understand and carry out oral and written instructions required.
          Adherence to traffic laws, ordinances and rules involved in equipment operation required.
          Reads, analyzes, and interprets common and complex safety manuals, vehicle and equipment manuals, and instructions.
          Uses computerized diagnostic tools and power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding torches, jacks, hoists; and basic tools including power wrenches with sockets up to 1 ½" size.
          Prepares routine reports and record information about projects and assignments.
          Ability to establish and to maintain effective working relationships with all employees, officials, and the public and to communicate effectively verbally or in writing is required.

          Franklin County conducts background checks and drug screenings on all potential candidates.
